Be Part of the Story
Great Plains Theatre 2025 Annual Campaign
GPT IS RESILIENT - BUT WE NEED YOU TO KEEP THE STORY GOING
For over 30 years, Great Plains Theatre has been a cornerstone of live theatre and a cultural beacon in our region. We have faced challenges — from the 2014 fire that destroyed our original home to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we have emerged stronger, ready to write that next chapter of our theatre.
Right now, we stand on the edge of an exciting new era for GPT. Our upcoming season is packed with thrilling productions, new opportunities for artists, and expanded education programs. But we cannot do it alone. Each season, it takes over $325,000 to bring our productions to life, and ticket sales only cover 60% of those costs. We rely on grants, sponsorships, and generous donations to cover the other 40%.
With higher supply costs, licensing fees, actor wages, and travel expenses we must raise $130,000 in this fiscal year which ends on December 31, 2025. The good news is we have already raised 25% of this goal! To donate online, click the link below.

WHY THE ARTS MATTER
-
The arts industry generates an impressive $166.3 billion in economic activity. In Kansas alone, the sector contributes $4.4 billion, which accounts for 2.7% of the state's Gross Domestic Product, according to data from the Americans for the Arts Action Fund.
-
The existence of theatres frequently promotes growth and renewal by drawing in other companies, locals, and tourists. A community's quality of life is enhanced by theatre, which also boosts the local economy. An extra $3 to $7 is made locally at eateries, lodging facilities, and retail establishments for every $1 spent at the theatre. This indicates to us at Great Plains Theatre that our audience members generate more than $1 million in extra revenue for the area.
-
In terms of education, students involved in theatre arts show improved academic performance and lower dropout rates, according to a report from Americans for the Arts. Additionally, the American Alliance for Theatre highlights how theatrical experiences help improve students' reading comprehension and communication skills, while also encouraging greater civic engagement.
At Great Plains Theatre, we value the way theatre unites people. In a world often marked by division, the need for shared experiences has never been more essential. Our intimate, high-quality productions provide just that.
